The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is today synonymous with the detective fiction. Holmes, who is famous for his astute logical reasoning, his use of scientific observations to solve difficult problems and his sense of humour and wit, so captured the popular imagination that he became the folk symbol of the detective. Sherlock Holmes provided a great inspiration for forensic science and remains to do so.
