Young Sister Maureen is sports-mad. She lives in St Cuthbert's, a shabby old convent on the edge of Toxteth, where she's too busy talking to ghosts and trying to catch up on the football results to notice the changes that are sweeping through her native Liverpool. Sent to university against her will, she is taught art history by two rival tutors: the austere, refined Piers Palfrey, and the daring and dangerous Julia Mulcahy. As both try to impose their own ways of seeing, Maureen starts questioning her most cherished beliefs.
