| Kitap Tanıtımı | As in the case of all great artists who are said to mirror their age, Architect Sinan`s art and personality shall preserve their value as long as society discovers in him a part of itself, and as long as his works like Süleymaniye and Selimiye survive, and although our old information shall have to be updated, the myth of Sinan shall constantly be enriched by those reflecting new sensitivities and new knowledge. Regardless of how objective scholars may treat the subject, to belong to history and to continue living in history means to become lost in a steadily growing "mythos". The discourse on Sinan`s life and work has a multiple function: it links the Turkish person with his Ottoman past, and provides him an individuality distinct from a sweeping Moslem identity. Furthermore, it represents the greatest cultural potential that can rescue Ottoman and Turkish history from the clishes of Orientalist theories and set it into a more universal historical perspective. This book, which I have written at the request of the Economic and Social History Foundation of Turkey is a new synthesis of the ideas which I have developed and published over the last forty years in order to define Sinan, and which have been sorted out, clarified, updated and set on a broader theoretical basis.
