Jane Eyre

The most famous novel of Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre was published in 1847. As a critique of Victorian assumptions about gender and social class, Jane Eyre is one of the most successful novels of its era, both critically and commercially. The plot of Jane Eyre follows the form of a Bildungsroman. It also recalls the earlier Gothic novel and reflects the extreme faces of nineteenth century romanticism.
